‘The Black and the Green’ describes the life of the Jews in Romania during the war and the Holocaust. It illustrates all the sufferings they had to endure,” explains Ada Nicolescu during an online interview discussing her latest book release, a sequel to ‘Prelude in Black and Green.’
In addition to being the author of two incredibly powerful historical novels, Nicolescu is a Manhattan-based psychiatrist and a Masters graduate of New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts. Nicolescu’s education in both medicine and arts, combined with her own personal experience growing up in World War II Romania, beautifully intertwined to give birth to ‘The Black and the Green’.
“The two novels cover different time periods. ‘Prelude to Black and Green’ focuses on the 1930’s, the period before the Holocaust and World War II. ‘The Black and the Green’ concentrates on the war years, from 1940 to 1944. Both periods, particularly the later one, had tremendous impact on the life of the Jews. Out of 700,000 people, 350,000 were murdered by the Romanian Fascists during the war.
